How to Get to the Estadio Monumental (River Plate) and Back After a Show or Match

RIVER PLATE · STADIUM TRANSPORT · 2026

On a map the Monumental is only eleven kilometres from the Obelisco, but at midnight, with the streets closed and the regular subte gone, it can feel a lot further.

The encore ends, the lights come up over the Monumental and a whole stadium walks out into streets with no traffic on them. At Buenos Aires Transfers we drive visitors around the city, and this is what we tell our own passengers about a night at River Plate's ground: every official way there, how each one looks at the end of the night, and how to settle the ride home before you leave the hotel.

The Estadio Monumental is River Plate's stadium, on Avenida Figueroa Alcorta in Núñez, in the north of the city, about 11 kilometres by road from the Obelisco. You may still see it called Más Monumental, its sponsored name from 2022 until September 2026, and the ticketer lists it as Estadio River Plate: it is the same place. Getting there is simple. Coming back is the hard part.

Which concerts are coming to the Monumental?

These are the shows that AllAccess, the ticketer, lists at the stadium as of October 2026. We update the list as dates are added.

Go by the time on your own ticket. Every one of these dates is a weekday, so the ride there shares the road with the evening rush, and the ride back runs into the weekday subte timetable. Both are below.

How do you get to the Monumental?

By subte, on Line D

Line D runs from Catedral, in the centre, to Congreso de Tucumán, the end of the line, on Avenida Cabildo. From there the stadium is about 2 kilometres on foot.

By train, on the Mitre line

Trains on the Mitre line's Tigre branch leave from Retiro and stop at Núñez station, also about 2 kilometres on foot from the stadium, and at Belgrano C, a little further. Track renewal works sometimes interrupt the branch, so check Trenes Argentinos before you go.

By bus

For a show in September 2026, the City's traffic notice suggested buses along the Avenida Cabildo Metrobús, around Barrancas de Belgrano, on Avenida del Libertador and at Ciudad Universitaria. The City's notice lists every line.

Why is getting back the hard part?

The streets around the stadium close from 11am

The pattern repeats show after show. For a concert on a Saturday in September 2026, the City of Buenos Aires closed the whole area between Avenida del Libertador, Avenida Udaondo, Avenida Figueroa Alcorta and Monroe from 11am until 2am, with vehicle checks, and shut Figueroa Alcorta in front of the stadium from 1pm. For AC/DC in March 2026, on a Monday, a Friday and a Tuesday, the City again closed the area around the stadium to traffic from 11am to 1am. The City publishes the closures in the days before each event.

So no taxi or app ride reaches the gate. Whoever collects you waits outside that perimeter, and you walk out to them with the whole crowd opening the same apps at once.

The regular subte stops before the encore

On Emova's timetable, the last regular Line D train leaves Congreso de Tucumán at 23:00 on weekdays, 23:30 on Saturdays and 22:00 on Sundays and holidays. For a 9pm show, do not count on it.

For big shows the City has extended Line D: after the September 2026 concert it ran until 1:30am, boarding only at Congreso de Tucumán and stopping at Olleros, Plaza Italia, Pueyrredón and 9 de Julio. Extensions are announced event by event, so check for your date, and remember the 2-kilometre walk to the station with everyone else.

The train is not a way back either: on the Mitre timetable in force since 12 March 2026, the last train towards Retiro calls at Núñez at 21:43 on weekdays and 21:47 on weekends and holidays.

How does a private driver solve the return?

1. A pick-up point outside the closures, agreed in advance. We agree with you where the driver will wait, outside the closed perimeter, so you leave the stadium knowing where you are walking to.

2. One vehicle for the whole group. Our vehicles range from a comfort car for two to a minibus for 20; for bigger groups, ask us.

3. A price per vehicle, agreed before you go. Not per person, and with no night surcharge: the same at any hour.

4. A driver at your disposal for the night. The driver collects you at your hotel, drops you near the stadium, waits and drives you back, and you pay by the hour: USD 25 an hour in a car for two, USD 45 in a van for six and USD 70 in a minibus for 20, with a three-hour minimum. A five-hour evening, hotel to stadium and back, comes to USD 125, USD 225 or USD 350. More on how it works in our guide to hiring a driver by the hour.

Write to us on WhatsApp with your date, your group and where you are staying, and we will confirm the hours and the price for your vehicle.

Going to a River match

Match nights work the same way, with one difference on the subte. Under an agreement between the subte company and River, Line D runs late after every River home match played at night (until 1am after a Wednesday match in August 2026), boarding only at Congreso de Tucumán. National team matches close the same streets: for Argentina against Benin in October 2026, the City closed Udaondo, Figueroa Alcorta and the Labruna bridge.

Tickets are the harder part for visitors, and our guide to going to a football match in Buenos Aires explains how it works. The Monumental is also on our driver's map, and if your show is at La Plata instead, here is how to get to the Estadio Único. For the festival in San Isidro, see how to get to Lollapalooza at the Hipódromo de San Isidro.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is the Estadio Monumental from the city centre?

About 11 kilometres by road from the Obelisco, inside the city of Buenos Aires.

Is the Estadio Más Monumental the same stadium?

Yes. Más Monumental was its sponsored name from 2022 until September 2026, when it went back to Monumental. AllAccess lists it as Estadio River Plate.

Can I take the subte back after a concert at the Monumental?

Only if Line D is extended for your date. The regular last train leaves Congreso de Tucumán at 23:00 on weekdays. For big shows and for River's night matches it has run until 1am or 1:30am, boarding only at Congreso de Tucumán, about 2 kilometres from the stadium on foot.

Is there a night surcharge for a late pick-up?

Not with us. The price is set per vehicle, agreed before the trip, and it is the same at any hour. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.

I am flying in on the day of the show. Can you collect me at the airport?

Yes. From Ezeiza to your hotel in the city it is USD 50 in a car for two and USD 135 in a van for six; from Aeroparque, USD 35 and USD 95; from the Buquebus or Colonia Express ferry terminal, USD 35 and USD 95. Book the airport transfer, and message us about the show night separately.

Settle the ride home before the first song

A night at the Monumental ends the same way for everyone: lights up, gates open and a closed perimeter between the stadium and the nearest car. The difference is whether the way home was decided calmly at the hotel or in the crowd on Figueroa Alcorta. Decide it early, then enjoy the show.

Book your ride to the Monumental. Message us on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 2404-0448 with your show date, your group size and where you are staying, and we will quote the show-night driver for your vehicle.
